Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Is your child enrolled in this awesome free program?

By Nicholl Summers January 20, 2017

Have you heard of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?  If you have children ages birth to 5 years, it is something you should look into!  When enrolled, your child receives a free, age appropriate book every month in the mail until the age of 5!  Why is this so amazing? Early access to books has been proven to build early literacy skills in even young babies and toddlers, building a foundation for learning in the future. This program is committed to the idea that all babies and children should have access to books, regardless of income.

Thanks to an amazing local non-profit called Begin with Books, this program is expanding here in the Lowcountry.  Although the program is pretty established in the Charleston area, it has recently expanded into North Charleston.  So even if you have checked before to see if you are in a sponsored area, it is worth a second look to see if your zip code has been added!  These are the zip codes currently served in our area:

    29401 (Charleston)
    29403 (Charleston)

29405 (North Charleston; this zip only)

    29407 (Charleston-West Ashley)

    29409 (Charleston-Citadel)
    29426 (Adams Run)
    29429 (Awendaw)
    29438 (Edisto)

    29439 (Folly Beach)

    29449 (Hollywood and Meggett)
    29455 (Johns Island)
    29458 (McClellanville)
    29470 (Ravenel)
    29487 (Wadmalaw Island)

Access to books and an early awareness of their value is proven to accelerate literacy and to speed the transition from learning-to-read to reading-to-learn, a pivotal factor in life-long opportunity and success.” –Begin with Books
